Building Biology

What is building biology? In short it’s the correlation between people and their living environment. In more detail, building biology deals with and looks closely at the effects of the building materials used on residents in a building. Today, evaluation of the biology of buildings investigates the presence of unhealthy emissions within the living environment. Long-term unhealthy emissions include dust, gases and radiation.

In many ways timber can be seen as a kind of “decathlete” among other building materials and therefore it is very well suited to use in biological buildings! As a natural product, timber offers optimal thermal insulation while allowing the building to breathe. This, in turn, leads to very low operating costs and a brilliant indoor climate. The soft, open-pored surface of timber provides excellent acoustic qualities, offering a brilliant ambiance.

Thermal heat bridges
The achievement of good heat insulation must be strongly supported by structural measures. For a healthy indoor climate it is essential to avoid thermal bridges. We are able to prevent cold draughts thanks to our long-standing knowledge of various constructive solutions. The best insulation becomes useless if cold thermal bridges create radiating points, which negatively affect the living environment.

Interior surface treatment
There is no need for complex treatment of the natural wood inside your building. For long-term protection in your personal oasis we recommend water-soluble, biologically safe paints for heavily used areas, e.g. kitchens, bathrooms etc.

Timber protection
The protection of construction timber is one of our strengths. We have vastly reduced our use of chemical substances for pest control through our well thought-out and detailed solutions. We gladly accept the ecological challenge, as the results emphasize our quality.
